canon 60d vs t2i

On the surface the 60D is rather large but, in fact, its volume is not really important than its competitors. The case is just wider which gives that impression but its weight remains in the standard category. To a large extent the 60D is an intermediary between the 550D and the 7D which it borrows most of its essential elements. So there is no revelation with this particular model!

Ergonomics careful

Intended for demanding users, the Canon 60D offers an ergonomic close to a professional model with two-wheel controls and a top LCD panel to verify or make adjustments without going through the rear screen. Of course the main parameters have orders avoiding direct passage through the menus!

Among the interesting features of the 60D, we must also acknowledge the presence of a screen swivel in all directions which allows for shooting original or difficult otherwise. The viewfinder is also much better than the consumer models with a magnification large enough.

However, Canon is silent on the cover of 100% reserved for professional models housing construction is the general public without metal frame or particular specifications for sealing. In this he is slightly behind the Nikon D7000.

On the side of the key features, the Canon 60D uses the new generation of sensors, already implemented on the 7D and 550D. This new sensor offers the definition of eighteen megapixels, but if Canon has increased the resolution, he also reworked the design of the sensor to improve performance to achieve better performance in low light. The definition is not a disadvantage, except for the choice of optics that will move more toward the high end if we really want to take advantage of the sensor resolution.

Borrowing heavily on higher models, the Canon 60D vs t2i offers benefits typically reserved for premium goes up as the shutter to 1 / 8000 s and also an extensive range of sensitivities since it can reach 12 800 ISO. Of course, the user has a multitude ofadjustment options to adapt the operation to his wishes. However, compared to the competition including the Nikon D7000, it may be grieved by the autofocus limited to nine zoneseven if the thing does not seem crucial for most uses.

Among the features that may annoy some users, performance is rather below the average of the category in burst mode, the fault probably the number of recorded pixels and therefore the file size. Shooting burst is not necessarily a determining factor. However, if it is part of your frequent use (photos, sports animals and other subjects moving quickly), it is good to think and could be a reason to opt for another model.
Like its competitors, the 60D offers full-HD video with 1920 x 1080 resolution and the choice of frame rate up to 30 frames / s (or more 720P). The stereo is available if you connect a external microphone. In contrast autofocus while shooting video in Live View mode is still quite inefficient.

canon 60d vs nikon d5100

Two years after its predecessor, Canon introduced the Canon 60D. The technical program is no surprise, but the grip a little out of place: Canon has finally decided to upgrade its equipment expert, no doubt encouraged by the excellent reception of ergonomic modifications of the EOS 7D.

Canon did not have a very high latitude. With a 18 Megapixel EOS 550D and EOS 7D 18 MP too, it would have been very surprising that the EOS 60D does not reproduce the same definition. The sensor is touched, however slightly, with higher capacity diodes to limit the saturation, and this should result in better preservation of details in the highlights.

Big advantage of the Canon 60D: this beautiful 3 "display / 1.044 megapixels) articulated. It will be very useful in video mode. The reflex viewfinder only covers 96% of the image actually captured.

They are ergonomic details that will boost sales of the Canon 60D from its little brother EOS 550D whose career promised to be long before his senior in the world does not come ... Indeed, we found the rear wheel indispensable to those who are leading their reflex mode PSAM. At its center the joystick gives way to a control button and a button. The choice of AF mode, the engine, the method of measuring exposure and sensitivity are directly accessible via shortcut buttons on the top of the box, near the index when it is on the trigger.

New digital effects
As we have seen on the Olympus E-630 or Pentax Kn, the Canon 60D can apply creative effects on the images in the camera which has the merit of saving the post-production stage. The effects available are: Black And White (rendering granular silver film), Soft Focus (ideal for portrait), Toy Camera and miniature effect (giving the impression that the scene being shot is a model). + Basic mode makes its appearance, it is an automatic mode in which one can give a report to his photos.

Ergonomics review, more compact and lightweight (755 grams), the Canon 60D offers a new segment to the range Canon SLR. For more visual, we suggest you go around the Canon 60D images.

On the other hand, the Nikon D5100 has greatly inspired the design of the D3100, but in terms of engine photo is in the range above, the D7000 that he preferred to take assets, including the famous 16-megapixel CMOS sensor with a sensitivity up to ISO 6400 (ISO 25 600 in extended mode), and a dynamic 2EV exposure above the competition. The EXPEED processor is responsible for processing the sensor signal.

Screen articulated 3''
The other major feature of the D5100 is to provide an articulated screen. Fortunately, exit the hinge on the underside of the device (as on the D5000), it is now on the side. Qualitatively, the screen provides a diagonal 3 "and a resolution of 921,000 pixels. It is perfect to steady the camera in video and helps frame the subject.

The D5100 is equipped with a double IR receiver to use the infrared remote control ML-L3, which is either in front or behind the camera.

Side of the video

The program of the D5100 for video, found the video in full HD and Nikon unprecedented rates of 25p and 30p in addition to the traditional 24p. 1080/30p videos are encoded in H.264 and saved. Mov. Small accessory that comes along with the D1500, an external stereo microphone, which is called the ME-1, will be sold between 129 and 139 euros. Small problem, however, the change could spend the reflex in LiveView mode, video recording has disappeared while he was present on the D3100 and D7000. The spirit of the idea, however, is kept, since a system switch was placed on top of the box and the red button to launch video is located next to the trigger. On the Nikon D5100, you can not play on the opening of the lens while shooting movies, but it is possible to calibrate the opening in the camera mode, then switch to LiveView and film with the opening defined.

A selection of filters for fun

The menu editing Nikon is naturally included in the D5100. New creative filters are emerging and they are mostly edited, as the thumbnail mode, which gives effect to photos and artwork with which one can choose the depth of field. New filters can also be applied to video, despite the fact that it will cause a slowdown in the pace of the video, which will fall to 10 i / s. The effects will be directly visible in LiveView mode and WYSIWYG video.

Full HD videoCanon 60D mode

The Canon 60D offers course Full HD video recording in 1920x 1080 pixels at 30, 25 or 24 i / s and 720p at 60 and 50 i / s. We can also crop the video if you want to zoom in VGA in the filmed scene. This corresponds to a zoom of 7x. The attraction of the video mode on the Canon 60D is that in the control of the exposure it offers a combination of size ergonomic detail: the presence of the rear wheel to select the exposure parameters. An external microphone jack will take a better sound than the simple mono sound the case. The EOS 60D offers HDMI CEC compatible which will fly the aircraft with the remote HD television when connected to it by HDMI.

The D5100 is equipped with a double IR receiver to use the infrared remote control ML-L3, which is either in front or behind the camera.

canon 60d vs 7d

After his release, there are already over a year and a half, while highly anticipated successor to the Canon 50D was very good ... 40D. In the end, an avalanche of criticism which has been entitled the new Canon SLR camera, especially because of a flagrant lack of improvement vis-à-vis the 40D. An SLR so far from memorable, and will have scared off a bunch of consumers in competition including the very successful Nikon D90 ...

However, many have tirelessly kept thinking that one day, Canon make the necessary changes to the 50D ... And these people here have done well ... Two years later, that day has finally arrived, the announcement of the release the 60D! And as well tell you right away, it does not disappoint!

First Impressions

The Canon 60D  keeps essentially the same lines and the same shape as its predecessors but still a huge list of improvements in hardware and design, making a worthy successor to the 60D 30D, 40D and 50D. Much has changed on this device, and it is quite difficult to know where to start. However, the first thing you will note on this unit, especially if you have owned a 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, or is its weight. It goes from 822g to 755g for the 50D to 60D. Certainly on paper 67g, it is not the masses, but believe me, after a certain time of use, you will soon feel the difference! In fact, this difference in weight is due to the abandonment of the old magnesium alloy casing for polycarbonate over glass fiber and aluminum chassis, which according to Canon, would be much stronger than previous models. Interestingly, and although I'm not going to complain about this weight loss, I find this change a shame, because in the end, the 60D offers a look more "plastic" than its predecessors ... For cons, it is necessary to recognize an advantage This polycarbonate is that the 60D will stand a much better time than our 30D for example, where the paint will disappear over time, revealing the color "silver" of the magnesium alloy casing.

Despite the great similarity to its predecessors, the Canon 60D comes with new studs in the Canon EOS 7D, including buttons that were higher re-aligned and repositioned closer to the trigger for better accessibility. In fact, one of the main reasons for the change (improvement for some), which may disrupt the most loyal users is the integration of this new articulated 3-inch screen, which is a first for Canon SLR cameras.

Yes, at first glance, this change gives the change much and is very confusing. Regulars will be "forced" to change their way of using the device, and adjust to the new button layout. In fact, the integration of this new LCD screen shows a hinge on the left side of the screen, forcing the Japanese manufacturer to rethink the layout of its buttons ... For example, the "delete" button, typically placed at the bottom left of the screen, is found in the top left, just below the switch "on-off" of the device. Closer to a 7D in its button layout, the Canon 60D  is, however, some order in these buttons with just what you need in one place so that the user can easily manage everything from his thumb. Finally, the transition with the previous models is done without too much difficulty.

We told you, one of the main innovations of this device, it is the new 3-inch swivel screen. Many, especially the big Canon SLR camera users will find that choice of place. However, on the other hand, I find this nice addition, and I must hope to see in the next 7D and 5D MK II ...

So, the question of "why I find this new LCD while interesting, I grant you, take pictures with the LiveView is not the best way to take pictures," Well I would say that having a adjustable screen can still make the most of LiveView and shoot pictures in almost unimaginable situations, and believe me, there are full! The second advantage is when you shoot video with your DSLR mounted on a tripod ... Being able to direct the screen is a huge PLUS. Finally, and perhaps it is not trivial to some, but this new LCD you will for the first time on a Canon to fully protect your screen from scratches and dirt.

Finally, add to the long list of improvements, compatibility with SD / SDHC / SDXC (Bye bye CF) and barrel selection mode shooting is now accompanied by a lock on protecting it from accidental rotations ... So here basically all you need to know when you take the Canon 60D in hand for the first time.

On paper, the 7D and EOS 60D are not so different. Both devices on board an APS-C sensor of 18 megapixels. They both offer an ISO sensitivity of 100-6400, with a shutter that goes up to 1/8000ème of a second, and the same modes and 720/60p video 1080/24/25/30p .... In short the radius of the similarities, that's about all. In fact, the two devices are very different as the two embark 7D DIGIC 4 processor with an incredible burst mode at 8fps (126Jpeg or 15 Raw max), while the 60D does not offer a burst mode at 5.3fps (58Jpeg / Max 16 RAW). We find a viewfinder with 100% coverage for the 7D, and only 96% for the 60D. Finally, the 7D has 19 AF points, while the 60D only has 9 AF points AF with cross type sensors, .. Note the absence of AF Microfocus adjustment on the Canon 60D.

In short, the 7D and 60D clearly targeting a different clientele, but fortunately (for potential consumers of the 60D), both devices offer very similar results in perfect lighting conditions, with of course a clear advantage for the 7D when it is to take pictures in low light .... Indeed, the 60D does not "shine" not really in this area, and you will quickly mount ISO, and thus the risk of you end up with images with more noise ...

Mounted with the basic objective of 18-55mm, the one that does not ring for focus, the Canon 60D  offers very accurate results, but like on most devices of this type, we strongly advise you to invest in a better purpose as the last EF-S15-85mm F4-5.6 IS USM, Canon marketed in a kit with the 7D, for example. Of course, it is not forbidden to invest in a target high-end Canon.

To be honest, it is very difficult to describe the differences between the 7D and 60D in perfect lighting conditions. However, when the landscape offers less light, and the unit will require a small boost in ISO, the differences will be widely felt between the two machines.

Video mode

The Canon 60D is therefore equipped with the same video mode as that available on the 7D, with the difference in the manual control of the audio only available on the 5D MKII.

The Canon 60D unlike the 7D and 5DMKII for example, does not offer a 100% viewfinder and displays only 96% of the image, making a difference in specific compositions. By cons, there is an interesting AF in video mode, similar to those found on the GH1 or GH2 for example.

In short, against all odds, I must admit that the 60D is impressive in video mode, and seems sharper than the 7D in this area. So certainly we tested the 7D at launch, and since then the Japanese manufacturer has released many firmware update, which would allow the 7D provide better results, but what is certain is the 60D is doing much better than entered-end Rebel or Kiss (even if it will not as well as a 5D MKII in terms of color, and sharpness). Even in low light, and high ISO, the 60D manages things properly. In fact you can see for yourself with the edition of Let's Visit Tokyo turned 60D: "Let's Visit Tokyo - Shinagawa Business Center By Night"

Add to this that you can now rotate the screen as you see fit, ideal for video in impossible angles. In short, the 60D has a complete video mode, and powerful.

Last but not least, the 60D target more "user-Sunday" that the 7D. For example, unlike the 7D, the case is not "All-Time." By cons, there are lots of little gadgets like electronic level, a RAW image processing in the camera (only while playing image), a very interesting mode "Creative Effect" often available on small cameras Compact or Bridge (We find the effect "Tilt Shift" or miniature effects), and support for PictBridge and DPOF V1.1 if you need to print photos without a PC.
Conclusion

There is not much to add on device and its countless gadgets and features. I also recommend to go around the side of the tests performed by professionals who will offer you in detail every aspect of the device. As usual, we remind you that we offer a test version more "user every day" rather than a test filled with ultra-technical terms for professional ... In short, this is more a test with first impressions when you want.

But in the end, although the 60D is the casual user, it still offers results similar professional equipment, or should I say close to the 7D, Canon 60D making a product highly recommended for anyone who wants more than that entered one of the range without having to invest in pro.
